To provide a safe haven for unwanted or abandoned pets, to place animals in loving adoptive homes, and to prevent the overpopulation of dogs and cats through spay and neuter programs.
Valley Humane Society is a non-profit 501c(3) organization that takes in approximately 2500 unwanted pets annually. These animals come from owners who can no longer care for them and from local Animal Control Agencies.
City and county shelters often have a limited adoption window of three to ten days, but VHS animals may stay with us for several months. As a no-kill shelter situated on three acres, VHS can house up to 80 dogs and 70 cats at a time. Each year, VHS requires at least $480,000 to cover the costs of food, housing, healthcare, and protection for these animals. Unlike city and county shelters, VHS does not receive any public funding from government sources or other animal welfare organizations. The shelter relies entirely on donations. We believe that healthy companion animals should not be euthanized due to a lack of homes, shelter space, or compassion.
